All that Glitters…….!

28 Oct

I haven‘t done a short “spur of the moment” piece like this for a while but felt I had to record this even though it may be completely meaningless to readers from later generations than mine.

Faith and I were driving into Peterborough today (28 October 2012). The radio was on and at 10.00 the Radio 2 news began.

The first item concerned the reported arrest of Gary Glitter by police investigating the Jimmy Saville sex scandal at the BBC. No great surprise there given his recent history, I’m sure you’ll agree.

The next item concerned a report to the effect that David Cameron’s policy on stamping out inner city youth crime by following one particular course of action is not working. Nothing unusual there either until you see the actual words the newsreader used, which were these:

“Arresting the Leader of the Gang just makes things worse”!

Consider the arrest report along with those words and tell me if I’m alone in seeing something more than a little ironic there!

Oh, and if you still don’t get it – take a look at a list of Gary Glitter’s hits – particularly his No.1 from the summer of 1973.
