About me

I am an East Anglian (that’s the bump on the right-hand side of England!) with a 60+ body and a 26 year old mental attitude!

I am not little, neither is my given name Alfie! For details of how the name came about see my one and only posting in February 2009 in the archive pages below.

I am a happily married man living in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. I have two daughters, one living a few miles away and the other in Witham, Essex.

As well as for YOUR amusement (obviously!) I write this stuff as a backup to my memory in case, through accident, illness or sheer old age, someone runs a “format C:” command on my brain! Reading this will give me some of the good bits back.

Apart from writing this blog I enjoy reading (mainly Science Fiction but there doesn’t seem to be much good stuff about at the moment!) and fishing.

Hi Alfie if you’re still reading this blog! I was at Copleston front about 63 to 68 and a friend recently asked if anyone could remember the words to “Prospicimus”, is there any chance of a copy please.
unfortunately I was taught in the lower echelons of the alphabetical class order, usually C or D with results which reflect my learning powers. I remember well the weapons used by the teachers for discipline, Mr Keeble’s blackboard rubber with ‘BR’ written backwards in chalk, Mr Hall cane soaking in the classroom sink but rarely used and latterly Mr Northways strap over his shoulder under his cape! The good old days, there were still marks in the school gym roof from the ‘pipe bomb’ for many years afterwards.
I must be one of the odd ones out one marriage, still going strong after 44 years 2 children and 2 grand children still living in Ipswich not too far from Copleston.
Remember the name Michael Vincent, I think he was a year or so above me he must have been notorious for me to remember the name!

      Hi Ray
You would have been the year above Mike Vincent and I (we were 64 to 69).

I do have a copy of the words (and the music!) for the school song – it was handed out with a brochure at Copleston’s 50th birthday “do” that I attended in 1989. I haven’t yet scanned it for passing around electronically but will try to do so in the next day or so and will email it to you at the address attached to your comment.

The Copleston69 Facebook group (it’s a closed group so you have to ask to join) has recently been extended to include other year groups and has a bout a years worth of recollections including Mr Keeble’s “BR” slipper – “Let’s play trains! I’ll be the engine and you can be the tender behind”! If you’re interested enough in your schooldays to want the Prospicimus words you might enjoy our ramblings there!
